Staff training, rescued from a platform that was closing

The vendor was cutting off access: courses, materials and assessments would have left with the subscription. Everything was recovered, then put back in service on a platform the organisation owns.

The context

A rented training platform means content you paid for but do not hold. The day the subscription ends, the courses, the materials and the history of results go with it — the duty to train staff does not. That was exactly the situation: access at end of life, no export planned, and a deadline that was not negotiable.

The workflow, in motion

Getting the content out before the door closes

A rented training platform is content you paid for and do not hold. Access was ending on a known date; the duty to train staff was not.

how_to_regFor the employee

They follow their course with their usual credentials — no extra account to manage — and results are read per site.

SCORM is a standard format: that is what makes recovery possible without asking the vendor for the content again.

What we did

  • check_circlePulling out everything still reachable at the vendor, recording where each file came from.
  • check_circleThe platform itself: courses, chapters, materials, assessments and results.
  • check_circlePlaying SCORM modules — the e-learning standard format — served from our own servers.
  • check_circleConnecting to existing accounts: staff sign in with their business-software credentials, no new password.
  • check_circleResult tracking, per employee and per site.

What changed

  • trending_upThe training content now belongs to the organisation: it no longer depends on a subscription.
  • trending_upNot a single course was lost when access was cut off.
  • trending_upStaff have no extra account to manage: it is the one they already use.
  • trending_upAdding or fixing a course no longer means going back through a vendor.
